Ntoroko, one of the poorest districts located in the Western Region of Uganda has been prone to early child marriage and lack of education which lead to a high poverty cycle in Uganda. Cultural beliefs such as girls being viewed as an income are forcing teenage girls out of school in the Ntoroko district, which has caused a high rate of school dropouts. It’s common among the Batuku and Bakonzo, the two major tribes in the district, to marry off girls at an early age between 13-16 years. Some of the girls are also denied education and forced to work as maids. Girls dropping out of school are common in Karugutu, Rwebisengo, and Kanara sub-counties.
Last year alone, fifty girls aged between 12-16 years abandoned school and were married off by their parents. Some students that perform poorly in school are not given another chance, but forced out of school by their parents and are given employment to work as maids. At Rwebisengo Secondary School, seventeen girls in senior one and two dropped out of school in the past six months. Although culture plays a big role, early marriages are also caused by extreme poverty that makes parents marry off their daughters in exchange for bride price. When a girl gets pregnant before marriage, she is seen as a disgrace to her family and society, and the only solution is for her to leave school and get married.

The Organization is still going forward. I was raised by a single mother with 3 other siblings though my Dad is still alive. Education has always been a struggle from the prior in terms of school fees or tuition. I want to take the opportunity to appreciate the unDEfeated Organization that has always given me a helping hand financially that is to say tuition. It is now three years back where I got stuck yet I wished to proceed with studies at the University level… I approached the founder of unDEfeated and she became a good Samaritan to me…. I joined Makerere University Business School ( mubs) in the year 2018 doing a Diploma in Business Administration( DBA). I was to finish my last semester and graduate last year but due to various reasons, especially Covid 19….that put the world at a stop, it was postponed for this year in August after my final paper in the forthcoming month. Putting financial aid aside…unDEfeated has always been an inspiration to me. Today as I speak, I am completing the course that will help me seek or even create jobs in my country or society because of the good Samaritan; an unDEfeated organization. I hereby strongly appreciate your willingness to come in with the objective to change the world /environment through Education. God bless unDEfeated abundantly.

Sponsor: BrainTrust is a national community of women business owners. Our members use their Vaults™ to champion and challenge one another to grow their companies to their fullest potential. We share experiences in a respectful, open, and confidential space, and we celebrate the many aspects of diversity in each of our members, staff, and partners. We are NOT a networking group or social club... rather we show up to get things done.
Student: My name is Karungi Muteesi and I am 9 years old. My father passed away when I was a baby. I did not get the chance to see my father! It has been painful to see my mom raise me alone and the struggle and suffering that comes along. My mother is one of the kindest women; even when we do not have much to eat, she still shares the small things she has with our neighbors; my mom says she may not get me far in education because she is running out of what to do to get my school fees. My mother has been doing some business, selling food and milk, but since covid, the economy has been terrible! So it has been tough on her. I want to get an education to better myself and my mother, my dream is to create a restaurant that would be able to bring me some money, and I will be able to feed some people in the community.

Join unDEfeated to fight child marriage in Uganda by donating to support the cause. We are sponsoring five students to have a better education by providing tuition and school supplies. We are also sponsoring five single mothers who suffer early child marriage and now need help to support their families and build a better life. Undefeated is going to sponsor nine students' education. It will cost about $679 to support a student's one-year education in Uganda. So a donation of $700 will cover one student's academic year cost, which includes tuition and school materials. We will also fund four women with their businesses so they can operate to build a better standard of living. The enterprises include Provisions stores, Farming, and Animal rearing. Although each business plan's cost is different, the average funding for a business is estimated at $2050. Here is one of the stories for our scholar: My name is Kasiime Sarrah, and I am 9 years old. I am in p1. Growing up, I dreamed of creating a school that could help disabled people like me. I want to go to school and get it because I know I can do anything I want with an education. My parents can not support me for long for my education; both of my parents do not work. Due to my disability, education is my only hope. I have to see a doctor every two months, which has been a struggle for my mom because she does not have the money. Sometimes I wonder how far I will go in this life if I keep missing my treatments. I keep praying to God to answer my prayers and sending this organization to the ntoroko district; I see it as God answering my prayers. We will be sending out quarterly updates on the progress of this projects once it’s funded.
